Disciples of Christ Challenge

A message from our Bishopric:

Dear Lincoln 6th Ward Family,

We are excited about our "Disciple of Christ Challenge" that we will be starting tomorrow Oct 1st. The purpose of this is to strengthen ourselves and our families as we work at being Disciples of Christ in our everyday life.  As we sacrifice and dedicate time to being a student of Christ, praying, studying, and acting, we will be empowered with greater abilities to be like He is.

Some of you might not have been in our 3rd hour meeting on sunday, so here's a recap of what the 90 Day Challenge is:

It Starts October 1st and goes through the end of this year.
  • Personal Prayer
  • Personal Scripture Study
  • Family Prayer
  • Family Scripture Study
  • FHE
  • Attend All Church Meetings

We might be doing all of these things now, or we might be doing some of them but not all of them. The challenge is to make each of these areas a little better, or to do it if we are not.  As we dedicate our time to Him, we will spiritually prepare ourselves for all that the Lord will require of us.

We passed out a book marker for you to keep track of your personal efforts, and we also passed out a family calendar to keep track of your family efforts.  If you did not get one, click on the links above to view, download, and print your copies.

Brothers and Sisters, we feel that the Lord would like us to prepare ourselves spiritually today.  The time is now to step up our game in our Discipleship.  May you be blessed in your efforts and your journey as we join together as a ward in being "Disciples of Christ."

Sincerely,
Bishop Smedley

Remembering Elder Richard G. Scott

Elder Richard G. Scott, who had served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 1988, passed away on September 22, 2015.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanene, who passed away in 1955, and 2 of their children.  They are the parents of 7 children with 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held in the Tabernacle on Temple Square Monday, September 28, 2015, at 11:00AM MDT.

Elder Scott was loved by many and will be dearly missed.  Three new Apostles will be called this upcoming General Conference (October 3rd & 4th) to take the place of Elder Scott along with Elder Perry and Elder Packer who passed away this past July.

It is a very exciting and spiritual time when new Apostles are called.  When a vacancy occurs in the Quorum of the Twelve, a replacement is called by the Prophet at the most recent General Conference.  The newest Apostle is chosen via inspiration by the Prophet of the Church, sustained by the general membership of the Church at General Conference, and ordained by the laying on of hands.

In a talk given by President Russell M. Nelson, we learn that, "All leaders in the Lord's Church are called by proper authority.  No prophet or any other leader in this Church, for that matter, has ever called himself or herself.  No prophet has ever been elected.  The Lord made that clear when He said, 'Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you' (John 15:16).  You and I do not 'vote' on Church leaders at any level.  We do, though, have the privilege of sustaining them" (Sustaining the Prophets, Oct. 2014).
